Anna Westphalen

lives and works in Halle (Saale), Germany

With a background in conceptual textile and fashion design, she has developed an artistic practice that consistently challenges the status quo, exploring the tension between humanity and nature. At the heart of her work lies the ambivalence of the Anthropocene: on the one hand, humanity's role as a geological force, and on the other, its increasing loss of control over the altered ecological systems.

Her works serve as speculative harbingers of these developments. Soft, colourful and seemingly harmless in their textile appearance, they simultaneously point to profound and often destructive processes of transformation.
